VANDALISM IN THE VILLAGE
Way back in 1977 Fr O’Rourke and Gabriel Starkin started to take part in the Tidy Towns competition to improve the quality of the village. Since then various committees have continued the work that was started all those years ago. Visitors to the village marvel that nothing has been broken or stolen in all the years. This is no longer the case, in the last 5 to 6 weeks 2 seats have been smashed, a plaque pulled down and damaged and a sculpture stolen. It is sad that in 35 years this should now happen.
CELEBRITY BAINISTEÓIR
Cashel GAA Club has been selected to represent their club, their community and their county in the RTE1 television series, Celebrity Bainisteoir.
The Celebrity Bainisteoir committee have selected eight teams throughout the county and this is the first time they have selected an Intermediate Team from Longford. There will be a well-
From our discussions with other clubs who have taken part in Celebrity Bainisteoir, it has proved to be a fantastic occasion for all the parishes/communities where it was filmed previously. It is an ideal opportunity for the people of Cashel to showcase our parish, spirit and pride in our community.
This programme has an audience in excess of 600,000 people tuning in per programme and we hope to present the very best that the Cashel community has to offer.
Cashel GAA Club is proud of the fact that they are one of the few clubs around the country that is debt free. This is in no small part as a direct result of your support and generosity. It is also down to the good work of previous GAA officers down through the year.
Cashel GAA Club is extending an invitation to you, your family and friends to join with us at our Club House for this launch on Sunday July 22nd at 12.00noon. We hope that you will be proud of your parish and your club grounds and that you will enjoy the whole experience.
RTE cameras will be present in the village from 9.00am on the morning of the launch. They will also be present at a number of training sessions at our pitch during the competition. All upcoming events will be advertised in our Parish Newsletter, the Parish website as well as local and club notes in the Longford Leader. We are asking that you come along each time the cameras are in the village and help us to create a great atmosphere.
Since the announcement of the event we have had many requests from parishioners at home and abroad about Club merchandise for this unique occasion. Club jerseys and jackets have been ordered for those who have requested them, and anyone who has placed an order is asked to leave their payment in at LK’s shop in the village, in an envelope with their name on it, before Friday July 13th. Many thanks!
