NINETEEN PRIESTS ON THE MOVE IN DIOCESE OF ARDAGH AND CLONMACNOISE
Bishop Francis Duffy has made the changes which were announced at Masses across the diocese yesterday.
Among the changes is the introduction to the diocese of Fr Joseph Okere from the Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria; the appointment of a Parish Priest for Ballymahon following the death of Fr Padraig Mc Gowan in February; while two priests are set to retire.
The list is:
Parish Priest of Edgeworthstown Fr Michael Bannon is to be Parish Priest of Gowna and Mullinalaghta.
Curate in Mount Temple Fr Pat Kiernan is to be Parish Priest in Edgeworthstown.
Fr PJ Fitzpatrick, Parish Priest Gowna and Mullinalaghta, is to be a curate in Mount Temple.
Fr Gerry Brady, Parish Priest of Newtowncashel, is taking up the same role in Clonmacnoise.
Parish Priest of Clonmacnoise Fr Francis O’Hanlon is to retire.
Curate in Carrick-
Parish Priest of Drumshanbo Fr Peter Burke is take over the same role in Ferbane.
Parish Priest of Ferbane Fr Frankie Murray is moving to the same role in Drumshanbo.
Administrator in Athlone Fr Liam Murray is moving to be Parish Priest in Ballymahon.
Curate in Athlone Fr Declan Shannon is to move to the role of Administrator in the town.
Fr Padraig Kelliher is moving from Longford to be a curate in Athlone.
Parish Priest of Rathowen Monsignor Patrick Earley is to retire.
Fr Nigel Charles, Administrator of Killashee, is moving to the same role in Rathowen and Streete.
Resident Priest in Streete Fr Joe McGrath is moving to the same role in Ballinamuck.
Fr Patsy McDermott, curate in Ballinamuck, is to be Administrator in Killashee.
Fr Joseph Okere from the Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria is to be a curate in Longford.

Cashel G.A.A. 125 Celebrations take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend.Events will be held over the three days,culminating in the honouring of the 1964 Junior Champions at the Club Barbeque in the Quarry Park. The weekend will also feature music and events illustrating the significant role played by the Club in the Social Wellbeing of the Community during the past 125 years.Plans include a commemorative booklet to mark the occassion. Those willing to be involved in organising and staging the events or in the production of the booklet, are asked to contact Club Secretary Bernadette Farrell, at 087 9262975.
VACANCY
Longford Community Resources Ltd, have a vacancy, under the Rural Social Scheme ,for a maintainance person,based at Cashel Cemetery, to start immediately.The position entails, grass cutting, strimming and keeping the Cemetery Tidy. To qualify for the Scheme, the person must be in receipt of a social protection payment,and have an active herd number. HARVEST FESTIVAL
The Harvest Festival will be held in Newtowncashel on Sunday the 23rd of August, commencing at 12.00 noon. This will be the festival's third consecutive visit to Newtowncashel, thanks to the availability and suitability of the site and the success of the event on the two previous occasions.
