WELCOME FR,MERLYN
The parish of Newtowncashel welcomes Fr.Merlyn Kenny,who replaces Fr.Gerard Brady as our Parish Priest.His journey has taken him to our lovely parish and we hope that he feels at home among us. We also wish Fr.Brady all the best for the future in his position as Parish Priest in Shannonbridge.

PATTERN DAY
The annual Pattern at Lady Well,Derrydarragh,took place last Saturday evening,the 5th of September and it was Fr.Merlyn Kenny's first Mass as  our new Parish Priest. Set against the lovely backdrop of Lough Ree together with lovely weather,a large crowd was in attendance.

CLONMACNOIS PATTERN DAY
Clonmacnois Pattern Day takes place on Sunday the 13th of September at 3.00 p.m. This Pattern Day will commemorate the 1400th anniversary of the death of St Columbanus.

SET DANCING
Set Dancing classes on Tuesday 15th in Sorohans Ballyleague and in John Brownes  Longford on Wed 16th --8-10pm.
All  are welcome . Beginners welcome to try for the first two weeks , with a view to starting a complete beginners class. A great way to get fit,keep fit , have fun, make new friends in a very happy , enjoyable atmosphere.

I.C.A.
Newtowncashel I.C.A. resumed last Tuesday the 1st of September after the Summer break. We had a well attended meeting with a busy agenda to attend to for upcoming events. Our next monthly meeting takes place on Tuesday the 6th of October at 8.00 p.m. in The Hill.
New members are always welcome.

COMMUNITY GAMES
The local Community Games A.G.M. took place last sday the of September in the Hill. The following are the new committee elected at this meeting.

Assistant Secretary;Joe Mulvihill.
Treasurer;Christy Hopkins.
P.R.O.;John Kenny.
Children's Officer;Emma Murray.
Games Development Officer;John Morrisey.
The committee would like to extend special thanks to both Liam Bermingham and Anne Bannon for all their hard work over the past decade, and especially for their trojan work in keeping the organisation alive, in our parish.

THE LOCAL
This Saturday  the 12th of September we have the brilliant Colum Bourke playing, in what promises to be a great night's entertainment,especially as the crew participating in 'Hell and Back' will be returning to the Village after the event.

BOXING CLUB
Lanesborough Boxing Club reopened  on Monday night next 07 Sep 15 last  in the Lough Ree Resource Building (old convent) Main Street Lanesborough and continues on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.. New members welcome, ages between 8-18 years both boys and girls. For further info contact Mark Casey 0872317669

CYCLING GROUP.
Meet every Tuesday and Friday evening at 7:00 pm at "The Hill".
Routes and distances to cater for all cyclists. Helmets compulsory.

organisations in Longford and Westmeath are helping to spread the word

CASHEL ON IRISH T.V.

WALKING JOGGING
Walking / jogging groups - Every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 9 pm from 'The Local'. Everybody welcome.

LONGFORD VTOS
The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting.  It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.  To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.  If you are interested contact Maeve Madden, VTOS Co-ordinator at  087 2050589.  

SWIMMING LESSONS
One to One Swimming Lessons are now available for adults and children in Longford Swimming Pool. For bookings or for further information,please contact Darren on 086 0662781
