NEW VILLAGE FOUNTAIN
The Tidy Towns in conjunction with Longford County Council are building a beautiful new fountain in the village.
Newtowncashel was chosen and funding will come under the category of the Village Renewal Scheme.
It is for villages that have lost so much over the last 20 years.
It will be on a site located opposite the church and The Local and in time will become a focal point for religious and social events.
Overlooking a large part of the parish and further out to three counties.
It is hoped it will be completed this summer.

TRACTOR RUN
Ballymahon’s first ever Tractor Run takes place on Sunday 14th April All proceeds on the day goes to Ballymahon Day Care Centre.The Centre has rennovations that need to be carried out. This will bring the Centre in line with today's standards.On the day of the Tractor Run , all tractors are asked to park in the field opposite Nally's Topaz/Spar and walk accross the road , with registration  in the day centre @ 11am. €20 per tractor and all proceeds is going towards the Day Centre refurbishment.  Any lorries , jeeps, and trailers carrying tractors are asked to unload at Finn's Centra on the Athlone Road and park in the car park. Great raffle prizes on the day as well as refreshments and entertainment. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Eigse Peter Carberry. A special event to celebrate the life and music of the late Pete Carberry of Derahaun will be held in Lanesboro over the weekend 12th to 14th April.
There will be the launch on Friday night featuring a recital by Uilleann pipers Neil Mulligan and Michael Cooney; adm. free all welcome.
Classes on saturday in Uilleann Pipes, Fiddle, Flute, Banjo, Accordion, and Uilleann Pipes reedmaking.
Concert Saturday evening featuring Pipers Gay Mckeon,  Michael Cooney, Donncha Keegan and 2017 All Ireland champion uilleann piper Cormac Keegan. Also very best of local talent; Noel Sweeney, Jerry Bohan, Helen Barry, Jim McLoughlin, Donlon family and the Carberry family.

OSKARS
The Ballyboro Soccer Club are having an Oskars night this June and the Newtowncashel contingent are having a fundraising Mr and Mrs competition in The Local on this Easter Sunday night. Local couples are taking part in what promises to be a great night's entertainment..Full details next week..

BASKETBALL SUCCESS
Congratulation and well done to the Longford Falcons Basketball Team who won the U-14 C All Ireland Final Last weekend in Gormanstown.  On Saturday,they played Sligo, Athlone and Mayo, and won all three games. They played Waterford in the semi-final on Sunday and duly won that to set up a final with Belfast. After a nail biting game which went down to the wire, they emerged victorious by 8 points. A truly brilliant result. Special mention to local Newtowncashel players, Josh Mulvihill, Aidan Mulvihill, Conor Murtagh and Oran Killian. It's not every day that four Cashel lads bring home An All Ireland Gold Medal to the parish. Well done to all concerned..

CASHEL GAA LOTTO

DAFFODIL DAY
The recent Irish Cancer Society  - Daffodil Day collection amounted to €995.50.    The organiser's  wish to thank you for your generosity and kindness.

LONGFORD VOLUNTEER CENTRE
Longford Volunteer Centre  will have an Information Event in Newtowncashel Community Centre on Thursday 11th April 6-8pm. The event is for people who want to know more about volunteering and community organisations who want to recruit volunteers. Come along and meet representatives from ALONE Ireland, Ballymahon Convent Day Care, Leisure Buddies Project- St Christopher's services, Longford , Ispca, Community Gardaí and Newtowncashel Tidy Towns. ELECTION LAUNCH
Local Election candidate John Kenny held a successful  campaign  launch in The Local, Newtowncashel , last Friday night the 5th of April.
Speakers on the night included, Johnny Fallon, Cllr. Joe Flaherty and Robert Troy T.D.  John wishes to thank all those that attended and helped out in any way.  He looks forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

FIBRE BROADBAND LIVE IN NEWTOWNCASHEL
Fibre Technology has been laid along these routes at the end of 2018 and is now live to 200 homes/businesses marked on the map. For approximately 90-95% of these premises fibre will be delivered directly into the home enabling speeds of up to 1000Mb/s (1Gb/s), with 5-10% of premises served with superfast broadband of up to 100Mb/s.

FREE TRANSPORT
The Irish Cancer Society operates a free transport service for patients attending hospital for chemotherapy treatment. Volunteer Drivers pick the patient up at the door of their home, drop them at the hospital door, then when finished treatment, will pick them up and drop them home. Volunteer expenses are paid. Patients wishing to avail of this free service should contact their healthcare professional, visit the Society’s website at irishcancer.ie or contact the Irish Cancer Society for more information on 01 2310 522.

Macra are looking for young people to join a new Macra club. Macra is a non profit organisation for young people 17-35,it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture,Sports,Performing Arts,Travel,Public Speaking and Community Involvoment. You dont need to be a farmer to join.
