REMEMBRANCE EVENING
A remembrance evening for the patriot Thomas Ashe will take place on the 13th of July at 7:00 pm outside the Old Thomas Ashe hall in Newtowncashel village.
A plaque will be unveiled and a talk will be given by Gabriel Doherty of Cork University, who is national coordinator of the Thomas Ashe memorial year.
This young man as a result of a speech given in Ballinalee on the 25th of July 1917 was thrown into Mountjoy prison where he died.
To conclude the evening all will be invited into the old hall to help recreate the atmosphere of the early twenty's and the great nights of drama performed here. It had always to be a farce. The Newtowncashel and Lanesborough drama groups are putting on a short  piece from the play The Lough Ree Monster they will be doing for the Lough Ree Monster festival at the end of July.
This group of talented actors are made up of political and business personalities from the two parishes.
All are welcome.

DEATH.
There was widespread shock and sadness in the parish of Cashel and beyond,as news began to filter through,on Saturday evening last, the 8th of July, of the sudden death of Andrew Rowan,Cormaglove. Only 26 years of age,Andrew died tragically in a motorcycle accident.
The parish of Cashel, was left numb ,by the sad news,as Andrew was a hardworking and popular man in the area. He enjoyed life to the full, and, like the rest of his family, was a decent, hardworking individual and his passing will leave a great in the lives of all those who knew and loved him.
To his mother Margaret, father Tomas, brother Tomas, sister Susan and all his many relatives and friends,we extend our deepest sympathy in their time of grief.
Andrew's remains reposed at his home in Cormaglove, Newtowncashel, on Tues July 11, 2017 from 5-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place this Wednesday, July 12 in St Mary's Church, Newtowncashel, at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Cashel Cemetery.
May his Soul Rest in Peace.
