CHRISTMAS SCHOOL DISCO
St.Mary's National School Parents Association,hold a School Disco ,in The Hill,this Sunday the 17th of December,from 1.00 p.m. until 3.00 p.m.Admission is €2 and there will be treats and refreshments available. A wonderful selection of music,both seasonal and popular,will be played. Christmas attire is welcome,but not compulsory.All children and parents are welcome,.Afterwards,Santa pays a visit to The Local, at approx 3.30 p.m.,so a wonderful festive day is in store for everyone.

CLOTHING COLLECTION
St. Mary's N.S. - Clothing Recycling on Friday 15th December.  Bags of unwanted clothes, footwear etc....(dry & clean) can be left in staff car park or in P.E. shed before 9.30a.m. This is a valuable fundraiser, and we appreciate your continued support.

CHRISTMAS DAY RUN
The Annual Christmas Day Run from Newtowncashel to Lanesborough in aid of the Longford branch of MS Ireland is now in it's 26th year. Over the years it has raised much needed funds for Longford MS and last year over 140 walkers and runners took part. We are again asking for your continued support this year and hopefully we'll be able to further increase the number of participants and sponsorship for what is a very worthy cause. Sponsorship cards are available in the Local or O'Briens in Lanesborough or for further details please contact Michael Flood (Tel: 086-0880855).

THE LOCAL
This Saturday the 16th of December,Albatross plays in the Local.
Then on Sunday the 17th of December,Santa arrives at 3.30 p.m.
All are welcome.

FIRE LIGHTERS
The Tidy Towns would welcome any newspapers (no magazines) to their collection bin at the Tom Ashe hall in the village.
The papers are being used to make fire lighting blocks.

The experts say the ideal time to make these fire blocks is early spring and leave them in an open shed where the wind can dry them.

NEW ARRIVAL
Congratulations to both Ruth Kearney and Ronan Muldoon,on the birth of their baby boy Liam, last Tuesday the 28th of November.

DEATH
The death occurred of Seamus Farrell, Gortconnellan, Drumsna, Co. Leitrim and late of Inchcleraun, Newtowncashel, Co. Longford on December 4th last,(peacefully) at Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle, surrounded by his loving family.Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving wife Patricia, sons James, Liam (Limerick) and Padraig (Trim), daughters Brid (USA) and Fema, sister Bridget (London), sons-in-law David and Alan, daughters-in-law Anne, Caroline and Ann-Marie, grandchildren Hannah, Eoghan, Finan, Marc, Ava, Aisling, Laura, Claire, Sean and Rachel, sister-in-law Monica, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.May his Soul Rest in Peace.

DEATH
The death occurred of Eileen Chapman née Smyth,94 Noel Road,West Acton,North London, and formerly Derryhaun,on Monday the 27rh of November last.
Deeply regretted by her loving family, husband Michael, sons and daughters Michelle, Fiona, Roger, Keith and Darren, brothers Tom,John,Eamonn and Brendan,, sisters Maureen ,Nula Ann and Olive, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pre deceased by her brothers Pat and Jim
Removal to St. Dominic's Church, Kenagh on Monday evening last,the 11th of December,  arriving at 7 o'clock. Funeral Mass on Tuesday,the 12th of December, at 12 o'clock followed by burial in Kilcommock Cemetery. May her Soul Rest in Peace.

DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
Cashel Defibrillator Group,will commence training in the coming weeks.We invite you all to avail of the opportunity to train in CPR and the use of the Defibrillator. Please contact Geraldine at 086 8566608,if you are interested in training.

TAE KWON DO CLUB
Newtowncashel Tae Kwon Do Club every Friday night in The Hill. Qualified Master Instructor.- 8th Dan Black Belt.  Classes,Children 7-8 pm / Adults 8/9 pm.

MACRA
Macra are looking for young people to join a new Macra club. Macra is a non profit organisation for young people 17-35,it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture,Sports,Performing Arts,Travel,Public Speaking and Community Involvoment. You dont need to be a farmer to join.

The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting. It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.
To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.
