PARISH PRIEST CHANGES
The Parish of Newtowncashel was given the news recently, that Fr.Gerard Brady was to be moving to the parish of Shannonbridge,Co Offaly,this coming September.Suffice to say that, Fr.Brady will be greatly missed,as having been our Parish Priest over the past 21 years,he has been a part of so much in our lives in Newtowncashel.A full appreciation will be forthcoming,closer to his departure.Fr Merlyn Kenny,currently Parish Priest in Carrick-on-Shannon will replace him as Parish Priest of Newtowncashel.

COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to Newtowncashel U16 draughts team of Brian Kelly, Eoin Mulvihill, Emma Casey, Zara Mulvihill, Lauren Casey and Aine Bannon who won Leinster Silver medals recently, in Newbridge.
Many thanks goes to John Mulvihill for mentoring this team all year and also for the past number of years.

DEATH
The death occurred of Brigid Rollins (nee Skelly) Elfeet on Tuesday the  30th June last ,at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home Ballinalee Road Longford in her 98th year surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful caring staff. Brigid was Pre-deceased by her husband Jack, daughter Marian and son Liam.
Brigid was a true lady,and her friendly nature was infectious to all who met her.Her passing will leave a great void in the lives of all who knew her.
To her son Cyril and daughter Geraldine, daughter-in-law Nuala, son-in-law John (Halpin) and grandsons Karl and Luke, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and extended family and friends ,we extend our deepest sympathy.
May her Soul Rest in Peace.

Meet every Tuesday and Friday evening at 8:00 pm at "The Hill".
Routes and distances to cater for all cyclists. Helmets compulsory.

NEW ARRIVAL
We extend congratlutations to both Elaine and Derek Farrell,Derrygowna, on the recent birth of their baby boy.

KENAGH TRIP.     
A group trip to the Fr Peyton Memorial Centre in Attymaas. Co Mayo takes place on Tuesday the 22nd of August 2015.      The cost of the trip is €30 which includes bus fare ,tea and scones on arrival, lunch and entertainment.   Bus will depart from Kenagh Village at 9.30 am and returns to Kenagh at 6pm approx.     For more details snd booking please contact Rose Egan,Kenagh Village,including your name contact details and €30 booking fee.

JUNIOR NATURE COMPETITION   
As part of our program of events during the Summer School Festival this year, and in conjunction with Abbott Longford, we are hosting a Junior Nature Competition titled “Our Local Environment” on the  23th 24th 25th  and 26th  July 2015.
It is open to all national school students and encourages a love of nature through enquiry-based learning and provides an opportunity for students to display their knowledge & discoveries. There will be one category, for ages 8 to 12.
This is a unique   type of competition in Ireland and it is hoped, in future years to make this into the premier environmental Junior Nature competition in the country. Competition is open to all National schools in the Midlands and will be judged by personnel from Abbott Longford.
Projects will be displayed in the Lough Ree Co-Op building during the festival.
The theme “Science in Nature” encompasses all aspects of our local environment eg, Animals, Plants, Trees, Land or Waterways, and should be displayed in a visual billboard type of display on a A3 poster. Individual or group entries are welcome.   
Projects must be returned to:
Lough Ree Community Resources, Main Street, Lanesborough, Co Longford
No later than Friday the 18th of July 2015.
Judging will take place during the summer festival there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd

DEATH
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Kitty Fallon, formerly of Lightfield, who died on the 1st of July last.
May her Soul Rest in Peace.

THE LOCAL
Don't forget ,there's superb live music every weekend,in The Local Pub,Newtowncashel. Up this Saturday night the 18th of July, is the brilliant Brian Ross. A great night's entertainment is assured.

COUNTY MINORS
Hard luck to Conor Farrell and his Southern Gaels teamate, Cillian Lee, and indeed the County Minor Football Team,on their defeat to Kildare, in the Leinster Minor Final last weekend.

I.C.A.
Newtowncashel I.C.A. would like to extend their congratulations to long time serving member ,Catherine Gallagher,who was awarded the Nellie Murphy Perpetual Trophy ,for winning the most prizes in the cookery section of the competition of the Longford Agricultural Show,on Sunday the 5th of July last in Moydow. Catherine secured a total of 6 prizes in all,3 first prizes ,and 3 second prizes .Congratulations to all the members who participated in the competition and to all who won prizes.

SOUTHERN GAELS
Congratulations to the U12 Southern Gaels team who earned their place in the Cup Final against Ballymahon on this Thursevening (16th) 7.45pm in Glennon Bros Pearse  Park after overcoming the challenge of Clonbroney in the semi final. This continues their impressive winning streak, having won all their games in the group stages. Well done team

There will be a Guided Walk on Sunday the 19th of July at 3.00pm in Edgeworthstown, assembly at St, Mary's Church. See 18th & 19th century School Houses. Immerse yourself in the period and hear all their extraordinary stories.

BUS SERVICE
Anthony O Hare Travel,Ballymahon, wishes to advise that if there is sufficient numbers, a bus service to and from Ballymahon,every Wednesday will be available.Depart Cashel at 9.30 a.m. and depart Ballymahon back to Cashel at 2.00 p.m. Please contact Anthony at 087 9004876. CASHEL G.A.A.
Cashel G.A.A. 125 Celebrations take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend.Events will be held over the three days,culminating in the honouring of the 1964 Junior Champions at the Club Barbeque in the Quarry Park. The weekend will also feature music and events illustrating the significant role played by the Club in the Social Wellbeing of the Community during the past 125 years.Plans include a commemorative booklet to mark the occassion. Those willing to be involved in organising and staging the events or in the production of the booklet, are asked to contact Club Secretary Bernadette Farrell, at 087 9262975.

VACANCY
Longford Community Resources Ltd, have a vacancy, under the Rural Social Scheme ,for a maintainance person,based at Cashel Cemetery, to start immediately.The position entails, grass cutting, strimming and keeping the Cemetery Tidy. To qualify for the Scheme, the person must be in receipt of a social protection payment,and have an active herd number. HARVEST FESTIVAL
The Harvest Festival will be held in Newtowncashel on Sunday the 23rd of August, commencing at 12.00 noon. This will be the festival's third consecutive visit to Newtowncashel, thanks to the availability and suitability of the site and the success of the event on the two previous occasions. CASHEL P.T.A.A.
The Annual Pioneer Outing takes place on Wednesday the 15th of July,destination Dublin.Details are as follows.Depart from The Hill.Further pickups en route. 9.30 a.m. Restroom break at the Applegreen M4 Service Station 10.30 a.m. Tea/Coffee and scones at Glasnevin Cemetery including the O'Connell crypt and tower,the graves of Michael Collins and Constance Markievicz.This is a particularly interesting visit as we approach the centenary of 1916. 12.00  noon.Guided tour of the National Botanical Gardens. 1.00 p.m. Opportunity for lunch at the gardens restaurant. 2.00 p.m. Board coach for the National Museum of Ireland,Kildare St. This is a self-guided visit with amazing exhibits on view. 4.30 p.m.Free time at the Liffey Valley shopping centre. Option of dinner in Dublin before departure,or on the homeward journey. The cost is €40.00,payable when booking.The charge includes,coach hire,driver/guide,morning coffee, and admission to to designated places of interest.It does not include lunch and dinner which are at the discretion of individuals. IRISH HOSPICE FOUNDATION
The Irish Hospice Foundation is now seeking to appoint experienced, energetic people to raise funds in the local area through a variety of fundraising activities canvassing for donors who are willing to support its work through regular monthly payments. These positions are self-employed long term. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role which will involve a variety of fundraising activities. Full training will be provided. IRISH CANCER SOCIETY
The Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive service is currently seeking volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments. We are looking for volunteers to pick patients up at their homes, drive them to the door of the hospital, pick them up when they are finished their treatment and bring them home again. PATTERN DAY
Pattern Day will be celebrated at Lady Well, Derrydarragh,on Saturday the 5th of September. Mass follows recitation of The Rosary at 6.00 p.m.
