NEWTOWNCASHEL DRAMA
Countdown to curtain up has begun for Newtowncashel Drama Group. With only two weeks to production, "Too Close to home" will be staged in The Hill, Newtowncashel, on the nights of the 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th of March, doors opening at 8:00pm and play commencing at 8:30pm. Written by Westmeath born Jimmy Keary, the play features James Ryan an aspiring playwright trying to write a play. Struggling to find inspiration he decides to write about the people he knows, with hilarious consequences. Set in the present day the audience will be introduced to a multitude of colorful characters played by our talented local cast. Please call 086 252 1536 to reserve tickets. We operate a ticket only policy to ensure no overcrowding or cramped seating. Price is €10 for adults and third level and €5 for primary and secondary school children. CEMETERIES COMMITTEE
Following a poorly attended Cemetery committee A.G.M. last week, a further meeting will take place on this Wednesday 18th in the Hill at 8.45pm. The present Committee which has been in existence for over 22 years and has done enormous work have resigned but will facilitate next Wednesday nights meeting. It is essential that a committee be formed in order to submit an application to Longford Community Resources Ltd before February 27th deadline. If this application is not submitted the current scheme to maintain the cemeteries will finish at the end of March 2015.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to Emmet Murtagh who came 1st and Chloe Hopkins who came 2nd in their respective categories in U10 County Handwriting competition in the community games recently.
Thanks to all the children that took part and to the judges that have now picked the county winner two years running. Best of luck to Emmet in the national finals in august.
Very hard luck to our U13 boys Futsal team who played their first round game against Carrickedmond last Thursday evening in Mostrim.
It was a bitter disappointment to lose out by a goal in the final few seconds having led the whole game from the start.
It was a fantastic performance from start to finish by the whole panel of players and the future looks good as the majority of these lads are under 13 again next year.
Team was Luke O’Boyle, Aidan Mulvihill, Dan O’Shea, Joshua Healy, Jack Sweeney, Tony Bermingham, Reece Kenny and Connor Farrell.
Table tennis: Our U13 boys’ team play Clonguish in the first round and both U16 boys teams play Kilashee A and B teams.
Finals will be played on Friday the 13th of March at 6pm in Ardagh.
Basketball:
Our U13 boys’ team play Lanesboro and this game has to be played before 3rd of March. Fixture details will follow:
Our U13 girls play the winners of Abbeylara and Carrickedmond
Our 16 boys play the winners of Clonguish and Longford South.

Art final is on the 28th of February in St Emer’s national school at 10 am.

County U14 Table quiz is now set for Friday the 6th of March in the park house Edgeworthstown at 7pm.

Very hard luck to our U15 futsal team at the finals in Kenagh at the weekend. We put up a brave fight but it wasn’t to be in the end.
Team on duty was Conor Skelly, Brian Kelly, Chris Steadman, Eoin Mulvihill, Mathew Steadman, David Sweeney and Liam Martin.
Mark Brehon absent due to sickness.
Training continues as usual for all events.

MONSTER AUCTION.
Newtowncashel Community games are holding a Monster Auction at 1pm on Sunday 19th of April in the Hall in Newtowncashel. We will be using the funds raised to purchase much needed sports equipment in order for the children of the parish to be able to participate in Events and Activities. Your support will be greatly appreciated and we hope you can help by donating something for sale on the day or purchasing a bargain.
We are looking for quality items such as Firewood, DIY and garden tools, Toys, Books, DVD’s, Paintings, Household Goods, Vouchers etc. to be auctioned on the day. All items considered.
We are also looking for Cakes, buns, jams, tarts etc. that can be sold separately.
