THOMAS ASHE
A lovely evening took place last Thursday to remember and commemorate the patriot Thomas Ashe outside the old hall bearing his name. To hear the trumpet sound the reveille, the young choir sing the National Anthem and the large crowd join in was a rare sound to be heard in the village.
The story of his life was told and five members of the Ashe family attended.
Later all were invited indoors to see the old hall and a preview of the play The Lough Ree Monster.
To conclude six young actors performed a sketch that has taken them all the way to the All Ireland Community Games finals.
The Tidy Towns apologise to all who could not get in.
