BEST WISHES TO MARTIN SKELLY.
We join in wishing local man,Martin Skelly,all the best,in his bid to become President of the Gaelic Athletic Association,this Friday.It is a tremendous honour to have someone from Cashel,and indeed Longford,in the running for this prestigious position.If successful,Martin will be the first Longfordman to hold the position.Best wishes Martin,we are all behind you here in Cashel!

ST.MARY'S NATIONAL SCHOOL.
St.Mary's National School is celebrating it's 50th year Reunion wiith a programme of evens,t over the weekend of Friday the 11th through to Sunday the 13th of August, 2017.The main event,will be a Race Day,at the Kilbeggan evening race meeting on Saturday the 12th of August.Please keep this date in your diary.Further details to follow.

HOSPICE FUNDRAISER
There will be an Irish hospice fundraiser in The Local Newtowncashel, this  Sat 25th Feb. Starting at 4.30pm with a Tractor Run, followed by light refreshments in The Local, with music later by The Casey's.

NEW ARRIVAL
Congratulations to Shane and Katharina Gilmore, on the birth of their baby boy, Sean recently.

DEATH.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Sr.Paula (Margaret) Brennan,Lismagawley, Mercy Sister,who died last week in Navan. May her Soul Rest in Peace.

MACRA
Longford Macra Na Feirme is hosting a titles night in the Longford Arms Hotel Saturday night the 25th of Feb at 8pm to see who will win the battle to be crowned to represent Longford in the various Macra festivals around Ireland throughout 2017.Rhythm and Sticks band will be kicking off at half 10 followed by DJ and raffle on the night for charity,ADM is €10,a night not to be missed.
This event is to encourage as many young people between the ages of 17-35 Male and Female to join 1 of the 4 Macra clubs in longford and see what its all about.

We wish to congratulate,both Suzanne Casey and Lee Barrett,Derrydarragh,who were married last weekend,in Benalmadena,,Spain..We wish the couple many years of health,wealth and happiness together.

LEADER RDP COMMUNITY OUTREACH Longford Community Resources Clg will be in Local Libraries for LEADER RDP information/consultation sessions every two weeks commencing from the week beginning Monday 27thFebruary in the following local Libraries. If you have an idea for a project and would like to talk to a Leader Development Worker about applying for LEADER funding call into one of the Libraries listed below on the date and time noted. INTERNATIONAL ADULT POETRY COMPETITION AND PRIMARY SCHOOL MIDLANDS POETRY COMPETITION

TOURISM WITH BUSINESS CERTIFICATE
Looking for a career focused course? Then enrol on Longford College of Further Education’s 1 year Tourism with Business programme starting September 2016. Ireland is going through a tourism regeneration with employment potential from Center Parcs and from initiatives such as The Wild Atlantic Way, The Greenway Cycle Project and Ireland’s Ancient East project. The course offers practical business skills for the workplace as well as accreditation from Quality Qualifications Ireland and awards up to 400 CAO points for progression to third level institutions. This course is free to those in receipt of BTEA or who qualify for a SUSI grant* and to holders of a medical card. The registration fee and government levy is €330 for all other students. MACRA
Macra are looking for young people to join a new Macra club. Macra is a non profit organisation for young people 17-35,it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture,Sports,Performing Arts,Travel,Public Speaking and Community Involvoment. You dont need to be a farmer to join.

The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting. It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.
To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.
