Newtowncashel village got great exposure on Irish TV last Saturday evening when they dedicated a whole program to the village and surroundings with Jimmy Casey talking on the history of Saint's Island and Claire Egan and her bakery.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to all the children that took part in the County Finals last Sunday in Ballymahon.
It was a fantastic day and thanks to the county committee and all the volunteers on the day for making it a great success.
We punched above our weight again this year returning home with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
Our U8 fun Relay team also received gold medals as too did our junior and senior infants that were in attendance on the day.
Congrats to Conor Skelly and Mathew Steadman for getting gold in the Shot put and Long Jump respectively and best of luck to both of them in the National finals in August. We now have 9 children going to finals in Athlone which is a fantastic achievement for a small parish. We also have our U16 draught team of Brian Kelly, Eoin Mulvihill, Emma Casey, Lauren Casey, Zara Mulvihill and Aine Bannon competing in the leinster finals in July so fingers crossed that we could have 5 more going to national finals.
Grace Cullen received Silver medal in U10 100 metres and David Sweeney silver in the Javelin.
Mathew Kenny received Bronze in U8 60 metres, Chris Steadman bronze in Discus and Ciara Healy bronze in 100 metres.
Our Mixed U13 relay team of Alanna Flood, Zara Mulvihill, Jack Sweeney and Dan O’Shea all received bronze medals as well
Our Mixed U10 team got through to the final but were up against tough opposition. Team was Grace Cullen, Oran Killain, Conor Murtagh and Lucy Lane.
Our Mixed u8 Fun relay team had a good time and team on duty was Ben O’Shea, Fergal Murtagh, Keira Hopkins and Leona Farrell.
We will present our own parish medals in July some time when we get Leinster finals over.

Cashel G.A.A. 125 Celebrations take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend.Events will be held over the three days,culminating in the honouring of the 1964 Junior Champions at the Club Barbeque in the Quarry Park. The weekend will also feature music and events illustrating the significant role played by the Club in the Social Wellbeing of the Community during the past 125 years.Plans include a commemorative booklet to mark the occassion. Those willing to be involved in organising and staging the events or in the production of the booklet, are asked to contact Club Secretary Bernadette Farrell, at 087 9262975.
