NATURE WALK
The annual Tidy Towns Nature Walk takes place this year through a beautiful part of the parish on Monday the 7th of May at 2:30pm from The Hill.
We invite all to come and enjoy themselves and they will be helping the Tidy Towns collect some funds to keep improving the village.
AMERICAN TEA PARTY.
There will be an American Tea Party fundraiser and launch of 'Walk the Way' Camino Pilgrimage in aid of Longford Hospice Homecare on Saturday the 12th of May,in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Local man,Conan Casey will be doing this sponsored 778 km pilgrimage in memory of ,his late father Gerry Casey. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and food will be served from 9.00 p.m. Raffle and Auction on the night. Music on the night by Southern Revival. DEATH.
The death occurred on Monday the 16th of April last ,of Tom Skelly,Cornaguillagh. Tom was one of life's gentlemen,and was a hardworking,loving husband and father. His passing will leave a great void in the lives of all those who knew and loved him. To his wife Mary, daughter Katherine ,sisters brothers in law, sisters in law,nieces,nephews, relatives and friends,we extend our deepest sympathy.May his Soul Rest in Peace.
FINE GAEL
Newtowncashel Branch Fine Gael are holding their AGM ,on this Friday night the 27th of April at 9 p.m. in The Hill.Our newly nominated Fine Gael candidate for longford Westmeath in the next General Election,Councillor Michael Carrigy will be in attendance.
Also our local Fine Gael Councillors.
A big turnout of supporters at the meeting is expected and new members will be very welcome.
The annual Fine Gael National Churchgate Collection will be taken up this weekend,on Saturday evening 28th of April and Sunday morning 29th of April. Your support will be much appreciated.
PLAY YOU PART
Each Wednesday night the organising committee of The Lough Ree Monster Festival,,meet in St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Lanesboro at 9.15pm. The committee is very progressive and are always looking for new ways of creating new and innovative ways of making the Festival unique and inclusive for all.
The group are always looking for new people, new ideas, and new people to make the Lough Ree Monster Festival bigger and better than anything gone before. Please do come along, we invite people from the parishes of Rathcline, Cashel, Killashee, Clondra, Kenagh, Kilgefin, Lanesboro and Ballyleague. Share your idea and develop it into something special.

Fianna Fáil candidate in the next General Election,Joe Flaherty and his wife Niamh ,CDC Chairman,Pat Donnelly and his wife Breege,will be taking part,together with other familiar couples. A great night's entertainment is assured.
100 YEARS OF DRAMA
The Cashel Drama group will be celebrating 100 years of Drama this year.
St Patrick’s night 1918 a group came together to put on a play in the newly built Thomas Ashe Hall.
Their names were Bannon, Gilmore, Farrell, Caslin, Skelly, McGrath, Fallon and Kelly are names still associated with drama today in Cashel.
Year after year a play was performed and sometimes two. The inspiration of the group was Jimmy Bannon right through the war years to the end of the fifties.
Then Jimmy Bannon went to Dublin and many of them retired.
Dan Caslin stayed on to help a new group led by Bernie Moughty and with names like Bannon, Killian and Costello they kept the flag flying until the end of the seventies.
Since the early eighties the present group has brought delightful performances for the last 34 years.
This is a wonderful record in the county and even the country for an amateur group.
To celebrate this 100 years Newtowncashel Drama Group are putting on “The Beauty Queen of Leenane”. They have waited three years to get permission to produce this prize winning play which won honours for the author Martin McDonagh around the world.
It will be seen by the Cashel audience at the end of November

FREE TRANSPORT
The Irish Cancer Society operates a free transport service for patients attending hospital for chemotherapy treatment. Volunteer Drivers pick the patient up at the door of their home, drop them at the hospital door, then when finished treatment, will pick them up and drop them home. Volunteer expenses are paid.
