COMMUNITY GAMES
Well done to all our community games draughts competitors who performed so well in a marathon competition in killoe on Saturday the 17th of January. We entered four teams and our U16’s got us off to a great start winning gold in an 8-2 win over kenagh in the final after overcoming a strong challenge from Clonbronney in the semi-final. The team was Brian Kelly, Eoin Mulvihill, Emma Casey, Lauren Casey, Aine Bannon and Zara Mulvihill. Best of luck to this team in Leinster in a few weeks’ time. Our U14 team of David Sweeney, Conor Skelly, Luke Mulvihill, Liam Martin, Joseph Kenny, Cathy Kelly didn’t reach the final stages despite a good win over Ballymahon/Forgney. Our U10 team of Dean Farrell, Rian O’Boyle, Chloe Hopkins, Rinoa O’Reilly, Sadie Boardman, Brendan Mulvihill and Keira Hopkins performed very well but were beaten by Lanesboro who eventually went on to win the competition. This was their first ever competition and without the services of Chris Martin who we want to wish a speedy recovery to, they did very well.We expect great thing in the future from these players so keep practicing. Finally our U12’s team of Aidan Mulvihill, Harry Murray, Jack Sweeney, Luke O’ Boyle, Conor Farrell, Amelia Boardman and Josh Mulvihill put in a great effort defeating ballymahon/forgney, Carrickedmond and Clonguish on their way to the final where they lost out by one point to Dromard. Overall it was a very long but successful day and well done to all involved especially John Mulvihill who put in so much of his time and effort with all 4 teams. Thanks to Longford community games and Co-Ordinator Eamon O’Kane for getting all organised and all games finished in one day. Hard luck to our U10 and U13 indoor soccer teams who were defeated at the weekend in Kenagh. Our U13’s were defeated by a very strong Clonguish team. Team was Luke O’boyle, Dan O’Shea, Josuha Healy, Harry Murray, Connor Farrell, Jack Sweeney, Tony Bermingham, Reece Kenny and Aidan Mulvihill. Our U10 team were beaten 4 -2 by Carrickedmond in a hard fought and exciting encounter. Team was as follows: Dean Farrell, Jack Brogan, Oran Killian, Rian O’Boyle, Emmet Murtagh and Connor Murtagh. A big thank you to Gary Beattie and Peter Murray for putting in so much time and effort with these kids and with more training and practice we will only get stronger. Results of the Art competition will be given out next week.Next up is Futsal, Basketball, Table tennis. Unfortunately we will not be entering teams in Tag rugby as we don’t have enough female players.
