COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to Newtowncashel U13 Choir and to Molly and Noelene Fox for all their hard work and dedication over the past number of weeks preparing these very young kids.
The choir consisted of Grace Cullen, Lily Fox, Chloe Hopkins, Keira Hopkins, Ava McDonnagh, Chris Martin, Chloe Breslin, Jasmine Breslin, Rebecca Casey, Amy Nolan, Ciara Byrne, Erin Donnelly, Roisin Healy, Saoirse Healy and Alice Kenny.
Also congratulations to Newtowncashel U12 Comedy sketch/drama who also took gold medals at the county finals.
A big thank you, to the six kids involved, who are a very dedicated group Conor Murtagh, Chloe Hopkins, Lily Fox, Chris Martin, Grace Cullen and Brendan Mulvihill and also to Barbara Martin and Christy Hopkins for mentoring and preparing them for this event.
It’s off to the National finals in Abbotstown for both these groups in August.
Hard luck to our two Solo Singers Ava McDonnagh and Alice Kenny who sang their hearts out but it wasn’t their year, and to Lily Fox who played fantastically on the tin whistle in the solo music section.
All three are under age again next year so keep practicing and it will pay off.
Best of luck to our U16 draughts team who are taking part in the Leinster Finals in Carlow at the weekend.Team on duty is Emma Casey, Luke Mulvihill, Liam Martin, Joseph Kenny and David Sweeney.

POETRY WORKSHOP – MARIA EDGEWORTH LITERARY FESTIVAL 5TH-7TH MAY 2017
As part of the Maria Edgeworth Literary Festival 5th-7th May 2017, a Poetry Workshop will take place on Saturday 6th May 2017 in The Old Schoolhouse, Ballymahon Road, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford, at11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., by Professor Iggy McGovern who published collections of poetry with Dedalus Press in 2005 and 2010.  Awards include the Hennessy Award for Poetry, The Ireland Chair of Poetry bursary and the Glen Dimplex Writers Award for Poetry.  His most recent publication in 2013 is a poetic biography of the 19th century Irish mathematician & Poet, William Rowan Hamilton.  Booking essential, maximum 20 places.  Fee:  €20.  Book online at www.edgeworthstown.net/festival   Tel:  043-6671801 or email:  edgelocdev@eircom.net.

MS CHURCHGATE COLLECTION
Longford MS will be holding their annual Church Gate collection over this weekend ,of April 1st and 2nd. All support would be much appreciated.

ST.MARY'S N.S.
St. Mary's N.S. will celebrate the last 50 years and the opening of the new extension with a reunion weekend and Fundraiser on the 11th, 12th, 13th August 2017. The main event,will be a Race Day,at the Kilbeggan evening race meeting on Saturday the 12th of August.

MIDLANDS RALLY.
Well done once again to all involved in organizing the Midland Rally last Sunday.Once again,this event brought a great buzz to the area and Cashel was alive to the sound and sight of powerful racing cars ,all through the beautiful calm day.Special mention must go to  Sean Cahill and Cyril Rollins and all the  many  more involved in bringing this event to fruition..It was veru  professionally and safely organised..and was a credit to everyone concerned.

TOURISM WITH BUSINESS CERTIFICATE
Looking for a career focused course? Then enrol on Longford College of Further Education’s 1 year Tourism with Business programme starting September 2016. Ireland is going through a tourism regeneration with employment potential from Center Parcs and from initiatives such as The Wild Atlantic Way, The Greenway Cycle Project and Ireland’s Ancient East project. The course offers practical business skills for the workplace as well as accreditation from Quality Qualifications Ireland and awards up to 400 CAO points for progression to third level institutions. This course is free to those in receipt of BTEA or who qualify for a SUSI grant* and to holders of a medical card. The registration fee and government levy is €330 for all other students. MACRA
Macra are looking for young people to join a new Macra club. Macra is a non profit organisation for young people 17-35,it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture,Sports,Performing Arts,Travel,Public Speaking and Community Involvoment. You dont need to be a farmer to join.

The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting. It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.
To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.
