TIDY TOWNS
The results of the Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition were announced yesterday in the Helix yesterday. Newtowncashel were awarded 314 points, three higher than last year. To read the full report click on the link here: 2015 Adjucation Report

PARENTS ASSOCIATION
The parents Association are having their AGM next Tuesday 29th Sept at 8.30pm in the school.. All parents of the school are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet and engage In organising fun activities for the children in the school as well as a wonderful forum to advocate on behalf of your children

PASTORAL COUNCIL
The Pastoral Council will meet this Wednesday the 30th of September at 8.00 p.m. in The Hill.

THE LOCAL
There  will be music with Pauric Cryan in The Local this Saturday night the 3rd of October and of course don't forget the Ireland v Italy Rugby match on Sunday the 4th at 4.45 p.m.

COMMUNITY GAMES
Registration day on Sunday the 04/10/15 after Mass in the Hill .Cost  of €5 (includes registration, entry to track & field day & insurance) (all persons must be insured before they can participate in any event) there will be an opportunity to try out some of the events on the day (eg table tennis, skittles, draughts futsal etc)
We are looking for volunteers to train the kids if anyone is interested then please talk to a member of the committee on the day.
Finally ,Gala awards night takes place in the park house hotel, edgeworthstown on the 23/10, there will be music on the night, tickets €10 contact Christy Hopkins on 086)8399057 to purchase tickets.

CAKE SALE
Theannual Cake Sale and raffle in aid of St.Joseph's Young Priest's Society,takes place in The Hill this weekend,Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th of October after Mass.Donations of home baking and farm produce would be greatly appreciated.Your support would be very welcome.

ICA
Newtowncashel Branch of the I.C.A. hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday the 13th of October in The Hill at 8.00 p.m. New members welcome as always.

COURSES
This is the last week to enrol for QQI Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies in Ardscoil Phadraig. These QQI Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. They also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. Please contact the school on 043 6686209

LONGFORD TOASTMASTERS – Become a Better Speaker.
Longford Toastmasters Club Meeting takes place on Thursday 1st October Longford Arms Hotel first floor 8.20pm.  
Visitors always welcome.  Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of the month at 8.20pm. Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation.  By learning to formulate and convey your ideas, you open a new world of possibilities. You will be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations and you will improve your one-on-one dealings with others. Why not come and join us.

LANESBORO?BALLYLEAGUE BADMINTON CLUB
Lanesboro/Ballyleague Badminton Club would like to welcome back members and invite new members for the new season to experience the health and wellness benefits of what badminton has to offer. The club will be holding its second open night for adults of all ages and levels with coaching available on the 6th of October from 9-11pm in St Marys Hall in Lanesboro. Our Junior registration takes place on the10th of October in St. Marys Hall Lanesboro from 5-7pm. 8 to 12yrs old from 5-6pm and 12 to 18yrs old from 6-7pm.

A LIFELINE FOR MARRIAGES:
“Retrouvaille” is the name of a programme to help marriages needing support. It can also be helpful where a couple have separated or divorced but are willing to try again. THE LOCAL
There will be both Pool and Darts tournaments commencing in October,please contact Sile or Gary,either by Facebook ,or in the Pub itself,to take part. Ireland kick off their Rugby World Cup journey this Saturday at 2.30 p.m.Refreshments will be served,together with a chance to win a free pint. The All Ireland Football Final kicks off at 3.30 p.m. on Sunday,with Ocean's Eleven playing afterwards We now have a bonus ball draw running every week.Buy a line for €2.00 for a chance to win €94.00.

SET DANCING
Set Dancing classes on Tuesday 15th in Sorohans Ballyleague and in John Brownes  Longford on Wed 16th --8-10pm.
All  are welcome . Beginners welcome to try for the first two weeks , with a view to starting a complete beginners class. A great way to get fit,keep fit , have fun, make new friends in a very happy , enjoyable atmosphere.

BOXING CLUB
Lanesborough Boxing Club reopened  on Monday night next 07 Sep 15 last  in the Lough Ree Resource Building (old convent) Main Street Lanesborough and continues on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.. LONGFORD VTOS
The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting.  It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.  To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.  If you are interested contact Maeve Madden, VTOS Co-ordinator at  087 2050589.

WEDDING
We extend congratulations to both Maureen Fagan ,(Derrydarragh) and Kenneth McKeown who were married last Saturday the 26th of September.We wish them a long and happy life together.
