CYCLE AND HEADSHAVE
The community of Newtowncashel and surrounding areas came out in strength
on Saturday to support Co. Longford Hospice Homecare. Proceedings stared
with a cycle, where young and not so young, cycled distances from 25km to
4km. On Saturday night, the fun continued with a Head and Beard Shave where
eight very brave souls lined up for the chop.
The organisers would like to thank all who supported this very worthy cause;
the local GAA club, the stewards, the nurses, the catering crew, those who gave
spot prizes; all those who cycled and had their heads and beards shaved, The
Local, our MC John Bawle and barber Ben Hussey. The presentation to Hospice
will be done at a later date.

Dolmen Drama Group.
Dolmen Drama Group are busy putting finishing touches to their production of “See the Light of Day” a three act play written and produced by Liam Finnegan.
The group recently formed but members have up to 30 years experience in Amateur Drama in County Longford.
The Play which is not suitable for audience under 16 is set in the Ireland of the 1930’s and 1970’s, an Ireland totally different to our
modern society. We visit the McGarry household, a small farm family struggling to make a living and their interaction with their neighbours. Witness the plight of women in society back then and the control of the Church in their everyday life.
An incident takes place which has consequences for all, we see the fallout from that, and how they wrestle with their conscience, will
they do the right thing of will their strong religious beliefs win out. A night of “Drama” not to be missed. Tickets can be booked with
Backstage Theatre on 043 3347888 or on www.backstage.ie
