CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN CASHEL
Following a meeting in The Local last Wednesday evening,the 24th of October,it was decided to put up a Christmas Tree in the village of Newtowncashel, this Christmas.Due to the initial costs,we intend to put lights on a small mumber of trees also.If you would like to help,or make a small contribution,we would be delighted,as we think it would be great for our Village.. There is already significant progress on the project,so anyone interested,or have any ideas ,please do come along

St.Mary's Parents Association held their AGM recently. The following are the elected officers.

PIONEER MASS
The Annual Regional Pioneer Mass takes place on Friday the 16th of November in The church of The Blessed Virgin,Newtowncashel,at 8 pm. Fr.Merlyn Kenny,our parish priest,will preside at the Mass.Fr.Merlyn was appointed  Spiritual Director of Longford Pioneer Region some years ago.So we hoping for a big turnout of Pioneers,from our parish as well as from our region at this Mass.After the Mass,everyone is invited to The GAA Clubhouse,down the road,for a cup of tea and a chat.The local hall.The Hill, is not available on the night,as the Drama Group are putting on their play.

WELL DONE
Well done to all the locals who participated in last weekend's Dublin City Marathon.To Laura Healy and Paul Egan,we extend congratolations on their
excellebt times. Special mention goes to Adrianna Melia,who finished an incredible 14th position out of all the female competitors.Well don to all,and if there's any locals omitted from list, the correspondent was'nt aware of them taking part.

PIKE FISHING COMPETITION
Newtowncashel Angling Club hold their annual Open Pike Fishing Competition starting from Barley Harbour on Sunday the 4th of November,from 11am to 4 pm. Entry fee ic €100 per boat. There will ne €2500 in prize money; 1st prize €1000, 2nd prize €500, 3rd prize €400,4th prize €300, 5th prize €200, 6th prize €100. Places limited to 35 boats.

COMMUNITY GAMES
Members of the committee of Newtowncashel community games will be calling to houses around the parish over the coming weeks selling tickets for the national draw 1st prize a Kia car. Tickets are priced at €10 and €7 of every ticket sold goes back to the local area. This is our main fundraiser for the year and your support is greatly appreciated.

DRAMA,
Newtowncashel Drama Group,are delighted to announce that this year's production will be  'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' by the internationally renowned Oscar winning playwright Martin Mc Donagh. This year marks the centenary of our Drama Group,and this year's production will be staged on the 16th,17th and 18th of November,in The Hill,Newtowncashel. Admission €10 and Secondary School students €5. (Please note,the play is not suitable for Primary School children,)Doors open at 8.00 pm  Curtain at 8.30 pm.Admission by ticket only. PILATES
Pilates started in The Hill,last  Friday the 26th of October at 10 a.m. €60 for 6 classes or €12 per class if you prefer to pay each week.

GAA LOTTO
The following are the results for the GAA Lotto draw for Sunday the 28th of October last;. 2,7,21 and 24.

FIBRE BROADBAND AT LAST FOR NEWTOWNCASHEL
Fibre Technology will be laid along these routes by the end of 2018 and delivered to 200 homes/businesses marked on the map. For approximately 90-95% of these premises fibre will be delivered directly into the home enabling speeds of up to 1000Mb/s (1Gb/s), with 5-10% of premises served with superfast broadband of up to 100Mb/s.

FREE TRANSPORT
The Irish Cancer Society operates a free transport service for patients attending hospital for chemotherapy treatment. Volunteer Drivers pick the patient up at the door of their home, drop them at the hospital door, then when finished treatment, will pick them up and drop them home. Volunteer expenses are paid. Patients wishing to avail of this free service should contact their healthcare professional, visit the Society’s website at irishcancer.ie or contact the Irish Cancer Society for more information on 01 2310 522.

MACRA
Macra are looking for young people to join a new Macra club. Macra is a non profit organisation for young people 17-35,it has 6 key activities such as Agriculture,Sports,Performing Arts,Travel,Public Speaking and Community Involvoment. You dont need to be a farmer to join.

The Longford VTOS programme is now recruiting. It offers full time business and computer training free of charge.
To qualify you must be over 21 and in receipt of a social welfare payment.
