FIBRE BROADBAND COMPETITION
Newtowncashel were unsuccessful in the recent Broadband Competition results announced by Eir on Thursday last. The eventual winners were Munterconnaught from Co Cavan who will benefit from a 250,000 euro investment in their fixed line broadband infrastructure. The death occurred on Monday the 23rd of November last of Peter Nolan Carrickmoran.Peter was a quiet unassuming gentleman,who had a great sense of humour and wit.He was a dedicated husband and father and his passing will leave a great loss in the lives of all those close to him.To his wife Bridie,daughter Ann,sons Sean and Seamus ,sister Mary and brother Pat ,we extend our deepest sympathies.May his Soul Rest in Peace.
CHRISTMAS DAY RUN
It's that time of year again when preparations are beginning for the Annual Christmas Day Run from Newtowncashel to Lanesborough in aid of the Longford branch of MS Ireland. This is the 25th year of the event and over the course of that time approximately €180,000 has been raised for Longford MS. Last year 175 people took part and we're again asking for your continued support this year and hopefully we'll be able to further increase the number of participants and sponsorship for what is a very worthy cause. INSCRIPTION STONES
The Tidy Towns judges in their adjudication report mentioned the many inscription stones built into and on walls around the village for people who made contributions to the village.
The following are some of the stone:
The Gleason Conor Family, Long island and Aughavadden 1883.
Patrick Eustace who taught here for many years.
John Nankivell whose beautiful map of the village is a work of art.

There was a land league stone with the date 1879 built into a wall in the early 1980’s, if anyone knows its location please let us know.
A stone remembering Johnny Ganly who built nearly all the walls in the village will go in next year.
