Newtowncashel Tidy Towns holds its monthly meeting in “The Hill” on Wednesday 3rd, at 8.00 p.m. The agenda includes the Annual Sponsored Nature Walk on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May. All members are asked to attend.
RURAL TRANSPORT SCHEME
A public meeting regarding the Rural Transport Scheme will be held in “The Hill” on Thursday 4th, at 7.00 p.m. All are welcome, particularly service users.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION
'St Mary's NS Parents Association are holding a Table Quiz in the Peer Inn on Saturday 20th April 2013, commencing at 9pm. Entrance fee €40 per table. All support would be gratefully appreciated as this is our only fundraiser for the year.
LONGFORD WOMENS LINK
Longford Women’s Link Mother and Daughter Lunch: This event, which has become one of the ‘go to’ events on the Longford social calendar,is being held on Sunday 21st April in Lough Rynn Castle. The event, in conjunction with the Longford Leader, has plenty to offer and is a lovely afternoon with friends and family. The afternoon starts off with a champagne reception at 1pm in the Baronial Hall of Lough Rynn Castle followed by a buffet lunch in the grand ballroom at 2pm. There are plenty of prizes to be won over the duration of the afternoon with lots of treats and entertainment. This year, Barrister and member of the ‘Pink Tank’ , Theresa Lowe (formerly of RTE) is the Special Guest. Also, there is a fashion show by Longford boutique, Clara Ellen who will showcasing their latest 2013 fashions during the afternoon. Entertainment will be provided by Paschal, Liz and Davy with their musical treats. PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIP
County Longford Ploughing Championships take place on Sunday 14th, commencing at 12.00 noon, on the Reynolds Farm, Barne, Edgeworthstown.
DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
Newtowncashel Defibrillator Group wish to thank sincerely the people who generously supported their recent cake sale. €875.00 was raised and will be used to replace out of date equipment. People are encouraged to avail of training which will continue in the coming weeks.
GAA RACE DAY
Longford GAA are hosting their 11th annual Race Day at Punchestown on “Gold Cup Day” Wednesday 24th April. Cashel GAA Club will host a table there and are looking for people to join them for the day. The ticket price of €100 covers the following, admission to the races, race card, four course meal, celebrity tipsters, bar facilities, bookies and hot afternoon refreshments all of which represents great value. This is a great social occasion and meeting place with Longford people and friends from all over the Country. Car-

LONGFORD HARVEST FESTIVAL
Longford Harvest Festival will be held in Newtowncashel on Sunday September 1st. The event features working displays of vintage machinery, horse and tractor, with associated demonstrations and activities. This promises to be a very interesting and entertaining afternoon for family and enthusiasts. Proceeds on the day to St Christopher’s.
The next meeting will be held in Fallon’s, Newtowncashel, on Tuesday week, March 26th, at 9.00pm. A fundraising Table Quiz is scheduled for Friday April 26th.
THE ROSE OF TRALEE
Longford Federation ICA is happy to sponsor a Longford entrant in the 2013 Rose of Tralee competition. The criteria for the successful applicant are as follows:
1 – the applicant must be from Longford
2 – must have a connection in ICA, ie mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, Godmother, etc
3 – be aged between 18 years on 1st January and 27 years on 31st August.
