CASHEL G.A.A. PRESENTATION FUNCTION
The Cashel G.A.A. Club are honouring the 1961 league and championship winning team and living members of the 1942 and 1948 teams, at a function in 'The Hill', on Saturday the 14th of January. The President of the G.A.A., Mr Christy Cooney, will be in attendance. Tickets are available from committee members.
The Golden Jubilee Presentation Function will be preceded by Mass in the Church of the Blessed Virgin, at 8.00 p.m., for deceased members of the Club. Principal Celebrant of the Mass will be Fr. Seán Ó Dowd S.P.S, C.C., a member of the 1961 winning team.
This promises to be a great evenings socialising, so do please come along.

The local G.A.A. Club hold its Annual General Meeting in the Clubhouse on Saturday the 28th of January next. All members are requested to attend the A.G.M. All signed nomination papers must be returned to the Secretary by 6.00p.m. on Friday the 6th of January.
Shannon Gaels Minor Club is hosting the play The Pitch by Academy Award winning writer, Shane Connaughton, in St Mary’s Hall, Lanesboro on Saturday, 21 Jan at 8.30pm. The play’s central character is Philly, who has played for his parish and his club. However, it is planned to turn the local pitch into a housing estate. For Philly, the pitch is hallowed ground and it will become the site of his last stand against the proposed development. Tickets are on sale in O Briens Shop, Lanesboro, price 10 euros. IRISH LANGUAGE GROUP
The first meeting of Newtowncashel’s Irish Language group will take place this Thursday night Jan 12th at 8.30pm in the Hill. A guest speaker with experience of starting such groups will attend to get us going. This is a fun way to improve your skills of our native Language and whether you are a fluent speaker or just beginning this group is for you. NEWTOWNCASHEL DRAMA GROUP
Newtowncashel Drama Group will be holding a meeting in “The Hill” on Wednesday 11th January at 8.15PM. All members please attend as we are only four weeks from production.
CHRISTMAS DAY RUN
This year the MS Christmas Day Run had the highest number of participants, with 149 people taking part either walking or running, and as a result the sponsorship raised for Longford MS society in the 21 years of this run will be over €160,000. The winner this year was Gary Murphy (Kenagh), 2nd place was Declan Newman (Longford), 3rd place was Shane Doyle (Kenagh), 1st Lady was Fiona Gettings of Granard, and 1st Under 16 was Daire Flood (Newtowncashel). The award for most sponsorship went to David Hanley (Newtowncashel) and the Outstanding Achievement award went to Sean Dooner (formerly of Kenagh and now of Ballyhaunis) who at 81 was the oldest participant. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament returns on Wednesday January 11th, 3.00pm to 9.00pm. Thanks to those who give their time to quiet prayer. Others are invited to join them.
Recitation of the Rosary resumes on Friday the 13th of January at 7.30 p.m.

JUNIOR CHOIR REHEARSAL
The Junior Choir will hold a rehearsal in the Church on Saturday January 14th from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, in preparation for the “Do This In Memory” Mass the following morning. We look forward to a full turnout.

The Spring Station Masses will be celebrated from February 1st to 29th. Householders who are to host the Stations may arrange dates when convenient, if they have not already done so.

The monthly Tidy Towns meeting will be held in “The Hill” on Wednesday January 11th at 8.30pm.
