COMMUNITY GAMES
Well done to all the children who represented Newtowncashel at the Community Games County Finals in Ballymahon on Sunday last! A great performance was put in by all competitors on the day! Congratulations to Zara Mulvihill who brought home a silver medal in her hurdles event, to Oran Killian who got a bronze in the 60m U8 event, and to Luke O'Boyle who brought home a bronze in the 100m U10 event!!
ARTWORK IN VILLAGE
There has been much praise for the lovely scene painted by Tara Healy on the gate at the junction of the Quarry road and the Barley Harbour road. WE hope to see more artwork by Tara around the Village in the future.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION TABLE QUIZ
Well done to the team from St Mary’s National School who won the Table Quiz in Ennybegs on Friday last! The team were Brian Kelly, Ciara Healy, Eoin Mulvihill and Oisin Brogan. Well done also to the second team from St Mary’s, Conor Skelly, Daniel Farrell and Cathy Kelly, who came in 6th!
TIDY TOWNS
Full marks to the people who have done so much to present the Village to best advantage. All are asked to be vigilant with regard to litter disposal and control. In 2012 the first adjudication took place on June 5th. The judges are due any day now and may well already have visited!
HARVEST FESTIVAL
A fundraising Table Quiz will be held in Doyle’s of Kenagh, on Friday June 28th. A Sponsored Walk takes place along the Grand Canal at Kenagh on Sunday July 14th. The Festival is in Newtowncashel on Sunday Septemebr 1st. Proceeds are in aid of St Christopher’s, Newtowncashel Tidy Towns and Cashel GAA Club.
LONGFORD FEDERATION ICA GARDEN COMPETITION 2013
Flower Garden Competition: This competition is open to ICA members only. 1st Prize: Philo Kelly, Perpetual Trophy, and valuable runner up prizes for 2nd and 3rd place in the competition. Vegetable Garden Competition: This competition is open to all gardeners, male and female in Co. Longford. 1st Prize: Quinn Supply Stores, Perpetual Trophy, and valuable runner up prizes for 2nd and 3rd place in the competition. Judging will take place during the third and fourth week in July. TABLE QUIZ
The Irish Draught Horse Society will hold a Table Quiz in The Peer Inn, Lisnacusha, on Friday June 14th at 9.30pm sharp. Table of 4, €40.00. Raffle on the night. All are welcome.
SPONSORED CYCLE
Southern Gaels are having a family fun cycle from Killashee to Cashel on Sunday June 23rd, starting at The Chestnut Tree, Killashee, at 12.00 noon. Sponsorship cards are available from any Minor Club member or the local shop. Sponsorship cards with €20 or more will be entered in a draw for a mountain bike.
SENIOR CHOIR
A Senior Choir practise will be held in the Church on Wednesday June 12th at 9.00pm. The choir have been invited to take part in a Choral Performance in Longford on Saturday, June 29th, as part of Longford Arts Festival.
SCHOOL BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
St Mary’s National School Board of Management will meet in the school on Thursday June 13th, at 8.00pm. All members are asked to attend please.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
Cemetery Sundays – Saints’ Island Cemetery, August 18th; Cashel Cemetery, August 25th. Mass and Prayers for the Dead, 6.00pm. These Masses will replace the 10.30am Mass in the Church.
Pattern Day will be celebrated at Lady Well, Derrydarragh, on Saturday September 7th, the eve of the Feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass follows the recitation of the Rosary at 6.00pm. This Mass will replace the Saturday evening Mass in the Church.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
Ballot papers for the election of a new Parish Pastoral Council should be returned as soon as possible please. Thanks to the members of the current council who distributed the papers.
