DRAMA
Finally,after months of hard work,this seasons production "Philadelphia Here I Come" written by Brian Friel opens this Friday February 21st and running through Saturday 22nd to Sunday 23rd, by kind permission of Samuel French Ltd. We hope fans of Amateur drama will join us once again in The Hill Newtown Cashel for a great nights entertainment.The following are the cast for this year's production;
The Cast and Characters
Dermot Healy
An experienced actor with a string of great performances under his belt including; “The king of Fridays Men”,
Daughter From Over The Water”, “The Field”, “Mother Knows Best”, “The Maiden Aunt”, “Dancing at Lughnasa”, “Backwater”,
“Professor Tim”, “The Down Express”, “The Well of Saints”, “The Rale McCoy”, “Canaries”, “Stella by Starlight” and
“Callaghan’s Place”. This year Dermot will produce our play.
Orla O’Brien
Orla has been acting with the group since 2002 giving great performances in; “The Maiden Aunt”, “Mother Knows Best”,
“Dancing at Lughnasa”, “All The Kings Horses”, “Professor Tim”, “The Down Express”, “The Well of Saints”,
“Many Young Men of Twenty”, “The Rale McCoy”, “Canaries”, “Stella by Starlight” and “Callaghans Place”.
In this production Orla plays Madge, housekeeper to the O’Donnell household. A woman in her sixties, she walks as
if her feet are precious.
Conan Casey
We are delighted to have Conan return to the group after a short break. Previously he played in “Canaries”.
Before joining our group he was involved with the Drama Society in N.U.I.G., trod the boards with
Backstage Youth Group and did one season with the senior Backstage Group. For this season Conan takes
on the role of Gareth O’Donnell’s public side, the side of Gar that people see and interact with.
David Hanley
David has been with the group eight years and in that time has performed in “Professor Tim”, “The Down Express”,
“The Well of Saints” and “Callaghans Place”. In this seasons production David plays the part of Gareth O’Donnells
private side, revealing the man within.
Sean Farrell
Sean is one of the founding members of the present Drama Group. His many stage roles include parts in "Big Maggie", "Sive",
"The King of Friday's Men", "Anyone Can Rob a Bank", "The Field", "Humpty Dumpty", "The Whiteheaded Boy",
"Professor Tim", "Down Express". He also produced three plays -
and "Dancing at Lughnasa".
This year Sean returns to the stage to take on the role of S. B. O'Donnell, Gars father.
Rebecca Brogan
A new member to our group, we are pleased to welcome Rebecca, who makes her debut to the stage as Kate Doogan.
Kate is Gars ex-
Larry Gallagher
For thirty years Larry has been a valuable member of our group, supporting us in various roles behind the scenes.
This year he makes his first appearance to the stage as Senator Doogan, Kate’s father.
Michael Conlan
Michael is another new member to our group and we are delighted to welcome such an experienced actor.
With a long list of roles to his name, Michael most recently played in, “Philadelphia Here I Come” with
Canal Studio Backstage Theatre, “United” with Beeze Neeze, Theatre Co and “Thirty Nine Steps” with Bog Lane.
This season with us, Michael plays the part of Master Boyle, Gar’s former teacher and
Cannon Mick O’Byrne of similar age to Gar’s father.
Barbara Martin
This is Barbara’s third season with the group. Barbara’s first role with us was in “Stella by Starlight” followed last
season by her role in “Callaghan’s Place”. In this year’s production Barbara plays Lizzy Sweeney, Gars Aunt.
An Irish-
Thomas Dennigan
This is Thomas second season with the group following a break. His first role with us was in “Canaries”.
We are delighted to have Thomas back to play the part of Con Sweeney, Gar’s uncle and Lizzy’s husband.
John Kenny
John has been involved with drama in our Parish for more than thirty years. Beginning with Scor, he performed
in a sketch called “Mise Eire” which went on to win the county title. He also wrote and acted in the Senior Scór
Novelty Act ‘In the Beginning’ which won a Leinster title. John also performed roles in “Calamity Jane”, “Showboat”
and “Oklahoma”. Most recently with our group John took on a role in “On The Outside”. This year John plays the
American Ben Burton, a friend of Con and Lizzy.
Dylan Healy
We are pleased to welcome new member Dylan to our group, taking on his first stage role as
Joe, the youngest of Gar’s friends.
James Skelly.
This year ,we welcome new member,James Skelly,taking on his first stage role as Tom,one of Gar’s friends.
Keith Carberry.
This year,Keith makes a welcome return,to play the part of Ned,one of Gar O’Donnell’s friends.

DEATH
The death occured on Sunday the 9th of February last of Canon Jeremiah Macaulay,aged 86 years.Canon Macaulay was parish priest of Newtowncashel from 1983 to 1994.A totally selfless priest,he was particularly devoted to the sick and the under privileged,and all those who had the pleasure of knowing the man,have fond memories of him.He served the parish of Cashel well and was truly a great man.May his Soul Rest in Peace.
