Townland Trivia:

This week we take a look at the townland of Lismagawley, pronounced as written. First recorded in 1813 as Lismagauly, official Irish name is Lios Mhic Amhlaidh. A large fort in the middle of this narrow townland must have been the homestead of the mac Amhlaoibh family, who were Calraí and a ruling family in Teathbha. Other townlands in South Longford and Co Westmeath and Derawley in North Longford commemorate them. Two other Lismagawley townlands are nearby,

namely Lismagawley Bog and Meadow. John Boswell was tennant of one and owner/Occpier of the other two in 1840’s.
