Declan, Noeline and the Fox family:
Would like to thank all who travelled sent mass, cards, messages on social media, and rang to offer their condolences on the death of my father it was much appreciated at a very sad time.

I wish to apologise to Declan and his family as I received this notice a couple of weeks ago and it totally slipped my mind. Sincere sympathy to Declan and the extended Fox family on the loss of their Dad. May his spirit rest easy.
Get Well Wishes:
We send get well wishes to our neighbour James Whitten, Forthill who is presently in a Dublin hospital recovering from an accident at his home on Monday evening last, James was airlifted to hospital by Rescue Helicopter where we hope he makes a speedy and full recovery, to be home with his family as soon as possible.

Townland Trivia:
This week we look at the townland of Pollagh, pronounced pull-a.
First recorded in 1813 as Pollough, official Irish name is An Pollach. Projecting into Lough Ree, since it is an adjective, not a noun, the official Irish name should be Pollach, meaning full of holes. A placename in many counties.
Church Gate Collection:
St Christophers Services, Longford would like to thank the people of Newtowncashel for their most generous donations of €362.27 taken up at the recent Church Gate Collection. Collectors were Leo Sweeney and Ronan Muldoon.
As many of you will know, St Christophers provide much needed care and training for people with special needs, for a number of decades we had a very active branch of the association in Cashel which raised much needed funds for this worthy cause, we think of the Elfeet Regatta which was a big social event as well as a massive fund raiser for the organisation.
School Holidays:
St Mary’s Primary School children get their summer holidays this week, no doubt much excitement among our little people with family holidays and freedom on the horizon. We hope the weather keeps fine and that you all, staff included, enjoy the break.
Of course the week will be a mixture of excitement and sadness for sixth class as they bid farewell to teachers, staff and friends as they embark on a big adventure as they head to secondary school, we wish they well and hope they enjoy the experience.
Yesterday, Tuesday I was up at the school are we harvested lettuce, onions, beetroot and some carrots and parsnips from the school garden, the rest will have to wait until Sept.
Caretaker Appointment:
We wish Paul Kelly well in his new appointment as caretaker of St Mary Primary School, knowing Paul he’ll have the place looking fab in a short time, you only have to take a look at the GAA pitch and see the transformation since he took over the role there. Congratulations Paul.

Bereaved:
Two Cashel families have sadly suffered bereavements this week.
On Tuesday we heard news of the passing of Johnny Connor, Fortwilliam. Johnny had lived a long and fulfilling life farming, where he seemed at one with the land. I was lucky enough to have gotten to know him when we had the shop in Fortwilliam and a happier man you wouldn’t come across, every had during those years we had chats and you always felt as ease in his company. To his heartbroken family, his wife Mary, daughters Olivia, Darina, Jacinta and Áine, his son Enda and their extended families we express our sincere sympathy at this time. May his gentle spirit rest easy.
Funeral arrangements: Reposing at his residence on this Thurs from 5pm to 8pm with funeral Mass on Friday in St Marys Cashel at 11am followed by burial in Cashel Graveyard.
On today Wed news broke of the passing of Pat Marlowe, Derryhaun. Pat had worked in Bord na Mona most of his life and was a great footballer in his day with Kenagh Club, following on from retiring as a player he continued for many years as a referee, a respected one at that. He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine and is survived by his daughters Sínead and Louise and their extended families. His remains will be received in Kenagh Church on this Friday eveningat 5pm, there will be an opportunity to sympathise with his family until prayers at 7pm. His funeral Mass will take place on Sat at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Carrickedmond cemetery. May his gentle spirit rest easy.
Longford Show Reminder:
Sunday July 5th is the date for this years Longford agricultural show, it’s a fantastic day out for all the family, the young and not so young. More details next week.
Great News for our Parish:
Afterschool committee : We are delighted to announce that the provision of an afterschool facility has been approved and will now proceed. It is hoped that this will be in operation by September 2027 and will provide an excellent facility for children in the locality . Thanks to the Board of Management and in particular Mary Skelly for her trojan work in advancing this project. After a meeting in the hall a new finance committee was formed. The aim of this committee will be to organise a number of fundraisers over the coming months to help meet the costs of this project.
