Forthill Cross/Buggan Cross:
I see the road works at Forthill Cross are nearing completion, not quiet the staggered cross we hoped for but a big improvement on what was there up to now, a totally neglected junction by Longford Co Co which no doubt led to two serious accidents last year. As always regardless of the type of junction, it beholds all of us to be careful at such junctions, stop signs are there for a purpose, drive carefully.

Local Hedge Cutting at Junctions:
Local Councilor Martin informs me that Longford Co Co will be doing some hedge trimming at junctions about the parish which are completely blocking views by motorists as they try to navigate the junctions safely.
If you are a land owner it would help greatly if you would trim hedges at crossroads/junctions, it would make it safer for all parishioners.
Public Meeting:
"Ciaran Mullooly MEP is hosting a public meeting in St Mary's hall on Monday 20th July at 8pm to discuss the preservation of the Lough Ree Power Station building and it's potential to become a centre for new enterprise and long term employment. All local residents, businesses and Community groups are encouraged to attend when Ciaran will be joined by local and national representatives alongside relevant stakeholders. "
Note: As some will remember the Power Station was built and opened around 2000 at a cost of €200 million, closed after 20 years operating, so a depreciation of €10 million per year, insanity by anybodys’ standards. If you are interested, please attend to voice your views.
Bereaved:
This morning news broke of the passing of Tony McGoey, Darogue, Ballymahon, many in the parish will have known Tony as he worked with Farrely Coaches for many years, doing school runs, sports events, weekend away trips etc, while also being a top class tour guide where he covered the 32 counties with tourists from around the world.
One word would sum up Tony, a “Gentleman”, he was a great personnel friend of mine and I will miss him greatly.
To his heartbroken wife Caroline, daughter Kaythlyn, son Thomas and the wider McGoey family we extend sincere sympathy at this sad time. May his gently spirit rest easy. Funeral arrangements on RIP.IE

Johnny is seen by his peers as an experienced PR professional, affairs consultant and communications trainer.

Well done young man.
Townland Trivia:
This week we look at Saints Island, pronounced as written and first recorded in 1552 as Hooly Iland.
Official Irish name is Oileán na Naomh. Saints’ is plural, the apostrophe should come at the end of the word.
The official Irish is correct. The first record was pronounced Holy Island.
Once, and today almost, an island easily cut off by floods in winter, accessed by a causeway normally.
