Dates for your diary: The annual cemetery Sundays are scheduled for the following dates:
Saints Island on August 23rd at 1pm
Cashel Sunday August 30th at 1pm.

Townland Trivia:

This week we look at Streamstown, pronounced as written. First recorded in 1836 and official name is Baile an tSrutháin.
It is odd that this name was not recorded until 1836. It is not on Edgeworths’ map (which is not a townland map).
From its shape it may once have been part of a larger area, two sides are bounded by streams. Townland by the streams.

Childcare Committee Fundraiser:

The Newtowncashel Afterschool Committee are having a big fundraising event on Sunday August 30th at 4pm.
This new service in our Parish when up and running will be a God send to many families and well done to the committee and Board of Management of St Mary’s National School for their hard work and foresight, it’s definitely the future way to go.

Shannon/Lough Ree Swimming:

Water levels presently very low, so there has been advice issued that you should avoid swimming as there is a lot of algae bloom about, this usually comes with prolonged dry calm weather and low water levels. Dogs are particularly at great risk as the toxins in the algae can be fatal to your four-legged friends. As always exercise caution and stay safe.
