“I can see clearly now the …………”:

Good to see all the grass verges and hedges have been cut back at junctions by Longford Co Co, following local representation. Hopefully it will lead to safer motoring in the parish.
Next project for them is the fixing of directional, stop and yield signs, some are pointing in wrong, more totally hidden from drivers’ sight.

Pilates with a Twist:

Many locals will know of the Pilates classes which have been taking place in the Hill for a number of years with local lady Sile Delaney.
Sile is taking it to a new level with outdoor Pilates at the Shannon in Lanesboro on Sunday mornings @ 11.30am, this is her third year doing sporadic summer classes and it could be your chance to try this growing form of exercise which is a low-impact mind and body conditioning method.

By becoming involved you will also benefit from knowing you are supporting a worthy cause, as there’s no course fee, only a donation to the charity “HUGG” – Survivors of Suicide.

Participants are from around the local area, so an opportunity to get to know like-minded people as well as a healthy fun morning by the banks of the River Shannon. For more info give Sile a call on 086 1067626 and you can be added to her WhatsApp group.

Upcoming GAA games locally:

First bit of championship action coming up this evening as our Junior team take on Longford Slashers in round 1 of the 2026 C championship.
It’s a home game for us and throws in at 8pm.

It would be great to see as many supporters there tomorrow as the lads look to kick the busy month of football off in the best possible way.

The following is the result of Monday nights 25 Drive card Game in the Local.

Wedding Bells:

We congratulate and send best wishes to Joseph Casserly, Cashel and his bride Elizabeth Mulcahy, Cork on the occasion of their wedding last Saturday in Honan Chapel, University College Cork. They were joined by extended family, neighbours and friends to celebrate their happy day.
We hear the celebrations went on late into the night. Wishing you both a long, healthy and happy life together.

Note: omg, I’m getting old when the little children I busses to school are getting married. Lol.

Newtowncashel Afterschool Action Group:

There is something really special about a community that comes together for their children.

Our dream is to create a dedicated afterschool facility where our local children can learn, play, grow and feel safe. It’s a project that will benefit families for years to come, but will only become a reality with the support of our community.

We would love to invite everyone to join us at our meeting this Wednesday at 6.30pm at St Mary’s NS. Whether you can volunteer a little of your time, share ideas, help at our upcoming fundraiser, or simply want to hear more about what we are trying to achieve, your support would mean so much!

Our big fundraiser takes place on Sunday 30th of August, and we need as many helping hands as possible to make it a success. Every person

who gets involved, no matter how big or small their contribution, will help bring us one step closer to create something truly special for our children.

Please come along on Wednesday, bring a neighbour or a friend, and help us show what our community can achieve when we work together.
