Results of last Monday nights 25 card drive in the Local in aid of cancer charities is as follows:

Congratulations:

I want to congratulate the other half Anita on her win in the Ballymahon Convent Centre 50/50 draw last week. Her winnings amounted to €825.00. The draw is well worth supporting and tickets are on sale in all retail premises in Ballymahon, Foigha and Kenagh.

Bereaved:

It is with regret we record the passing of Michael Sweeney, Dublin and formerly Greenhall Upper, Newtowncashel which took place on Monday last in Connolly Hospital Dublin. He was a frequent visitor to his native Cashel and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him. To his heartbroken wife Catherine and the extended Sweeney family we extend sincere sympathy at this time, may his gentle spirit rest easy.

A Coffee Date:

Tomorrow, Thurs Sept 24th is the date for this years Hospice Coffee morning/day and as usual the Hill is the venue in Cashel. This very worthy cause has, in the past been very well attended and supported, so we hope for a rerun this year. Running from 10am to 4pm you will be treated to tea/coffee and loads of treats, plus the most important element of the day, a good chat. Put it in your diary.

Reconnection and Recollection of Bord na Mona and ESB:

This coming Saturday 26th September will prove to be a powerful day (pardon the pun) in the community as we welcome former workers and their families back to Lanesboro for a Bord na Mona and ESB Reconnection and Recollection Day. The committee has been gathering memories of past glory days and all will be on display in the parish hall. Former workers and their families and students of the local primary schools of Lanesboro, Fermoyle, Cloontuskert, Ballyleague, Ballagh, Curraghroe, Cloontagh and Lanesboro Community College (formerly Lanesboro Vocational School) of BnM and ESB that lived and gave so much to our community and the wider area will be welcomed to meet and catch up with former workers or indeed former schoolmates. We also welcomed and housed many apprentices in our community as they completed their training at Lanesboro Vocation School, now Lanesboro Community College and we would love to welcome them back to relive their memories in Lanesboro. Lanesboro, Ballyleague and the surrounding communities were very fortunate to have BnM and ESB power station in our community and we were equally fortunate in the calibre of people that came to work and live amongst us and they are still fondly remembered to this day. It is amazing that people from all over the country that came from the very outset are still being quoted and mentioned with a great fondness and respect. There is a general and wide invitation to everyone and their families to visit the hall between 10 and 4pm and enjoy the company of former workers and old friends. This is a wonderful opportunity for everybody to come to the hall for the exhibition and welcome the people back to our community.

Fundraising Concert:

A fundraising concert coming up soon which may be of interest to some locals.

Under the baton of Amanda (Smith, Derryshanogue), primarily it’s her church choir (Kilgefin/Scramogue) but also includes choir members from Tang, incl Susan McKenna and from Cashel, Siobhan Casey, Molly Fox, Mary Skelly, Brid Bannon, Barbara Martin, Alice, Georgia and Yvonne Kenny. An event for your diary.

Local Government in Cashel:

Longford Co Councils Ballymahon Municipal District are holding their first ever meeting in Newtowncashel this Tuesday Sept 29th. You will have an opportunity to meet and engage with Councillors in both Barley Harbour and the Hill and Shannonside Radio will do an outside broadcast from Barley Harbour on the day.

Hopefully organisations will take up the opportunity to engage on issues relevant to them.

Newtowncashel Gun Club:

Great to see all the developments and improvements that have happened over the

past few years at the clubs grounds in Drumnee. All the hard work benefits all

members and visitors. Recently they organised a shoot for wheelchair users, what

a fantastic idea, well done to all. Amazing to see a totally accessible facility in our

parish.
