ICA Newtowncashel Guild:

The Guild meet on Thursday 1st October in the Hill at 8pm.

Well done to all who took part in the September Federation competitions.
The Drama committee are looking for actors for "The Outing" which will be held in An Grianan on 14th March 2027. Lots of events to look forward to in October including the Cookery Cup on 20th October. The Longford weekend in An Grianan is on the 14th-16th May 2027 and includes courses on embroidery, pottery, jewelry making and relaxation.

GAA Results:

Hard luck to the lads on Sunday last as they went down to Fr Manning Gaels in the Junior final. They gave it all and are to be commended on their performance on the day.
Well done on getting to the final. Congratulations to Fr. Manning Gaels on their success.

Also well done to the Intermediate team who retain Intermediate status next season.

October 7th Deadline approaches:

The deadline for spreading slurry is upon us and I notice a mad rush to meet the Oct 7th deadline, this is a one week extension to the deadline which the Minister announced last week. We hope all meet it and can stay within regulations.

Local Gov came to Cashel:

Yesterday seen the first ever meeting of the Ballymahon Municipal District to be held in Cashel. The Councillors visited Barley Harbour and were interview on Shannonside Radio who had their outside broadcast unit there for the afternoon.

The Councillors then held their monthly meeting in The Hill and some people attended the public section of the meeting. It was Martin Skellys last meeting as Municipal Chairman and thanks to him for bringing Local Government to Cashel. During the interview he announced that a planning application will be lodged with Longford Co. Co. for a new hotel on the site of the former Lough Ree Arms site. Great news for Lanesboro. At the meeting the new chairman Mark Casey said he planned to continue with the idea of holding meetings around the Ballymahon district. Good to see Local Gov coming out to the people.

A number of locals were interviewed on Shannonside as part of their broadcast.
